The growth of e-commerce platforms has opened
new opportunities for traditional artisans, particularly handloom weavers in
rural India. This study investigates how online marketplaces influence the
livelihood and economic empowerment of these communities. Using a mixed-method
approach, comprising surveys with 200 weavers and interviews with key
stakeholders, the research examines income changes, market access, skill
development, and social empowerment. Findings indicate that e-commerce has
significantly enhanced income stability and provided direct access to national
and international markets. Additionally, participation in online platforms has
promoted entrepreneurial skills, digital literacy, and greater decision-making
power among weavers. Despite these gains, challenges such as limited
technological infrastructure, digital literacy gaps, and high competition were
identified. The study concludes that strategic support from policymakers and
e-commerce platforms can strengthen the handloom sector, ensuring sustainable
economic growth and empowerment for rural artisans.
